NHS leader retires following a career in health spanning 40 years

After 40 years of service to the NHS, Chief Nursing Officer for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, Alison Bussey, will be retiring from today, 15 December 2023.
Alison has had a distinguished career as a Chief Nursing Officer, Director of Nursing and Executive Director of a number of organisations. She is a General Nurse and Mental Health Nurse with a wealth of operational, clinical and board experience.
Simon Whitehouse, Chief Executive Officer for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said: “On behalf of NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and our local health and care system, I want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Alison on her well-deserved retirement.
“Her dedicated 40 years of service and contributions to the NHS have been invaluable, and while we will miss her expertise and presence, we wholeheartedly wish her all the best as she embarks on this exciting new chapter of her life.
“It is clear for us all to see Alison’s key achievements across many areas over those 40 years - building strong and effective teams, transforming the delivery of mental health services, building strong professional leadership and strengthening career pathways to list just a few.
“Colleagues have consistently commented on her values of humility, honesty, and compassion, and her drive to always keep the person and their families at the heart of everything.
“On behalf of the Board of NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, I wish her a healthy and happy retirement.”
