NHS Government Reset Programme
18 March 2025
On Thursday 13 March, the UK Government announced significant changes to the NHS in England, including its intention to abolish NHS England and fully integrate it into the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
As part the wider NHS reset programme, the Government has also asked all Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), including NHS Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin, to reduce their running costs by 50%, and all NHS providers to reduce their corporate and back office spend significantly.
This national drive aims to streamline NHS structures, remove duplication, and focus resources on frontline patient care.
Whilst we wait for further detail, we will continue to focus on improving waiting times, reducing the waits in urgent and emergency care, improving access to services and our financial position.
Through this period, we will work closely with all our partners across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin to ensure that any changes are managed carefully to maintain stability and continuity for our population.
We are committed to act in the best interests of our patients and communities and of course do the best for our valued and hard-working staff.
The NHS Confederation has published a short summary relating to the announcements and it can be found here.
