NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin (NHS STW) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Emma Crawford, Consultant Physician in Respiratory and General Medicine at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust to the post of Clinical Director for the Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) programme.

This role is pivotal to the success of a high-profile programme of work which will see the introduction of lung health check screening within Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin with the aim of capturing cases of lung cancer at an early stage and so assisting with long term survival from this disease.

In response to her appointment, Dr Crawford said: "I am really looking forward to leading the introduction of the Targeted Lung Health Check programme to Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. In my clinical work I see first-hand the impact that a diagnosis of lung cancer has on patients and their families, and the particular devastation involved in late-stage diagnosis of this condition. It is therefore very important to me that this programme is a successful one as it offers an opportunity to increase early-stage diagnosis and improve survival for people diagnosed with lung cancer.”

Chris Ashworth, Cancer Programme Lead for NHS STW, said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming Dr Crawford to the team. As Clinical Director, she will play a pivotal role in the roll out of the programme, supporting our ambition to increase early diagnosis and survival from lung cancer.”

The programme is planned to be rolled out in a phased approach across the county, starting in 2025.
