Have your say in shaping local outpatient services

Your local health and care organisations in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are working together to improve outpatient services.
Outpatients are when someone has an appointment in a hospital or clinic but does not need to stay overnight.

We are looking for members of the public, patients, and carers to join us for a virtual event to tell us what we need to consider in the design of future outpatient care.

We want to improve the experience of patients, carers and families, GPs and staff working in outpatient services by looking at the way people access care, how they manage their condition, and how the services work together and share information.

Now more than ever, we need to make sure our services are as efficient as possible and fit for future. Covid-19 had a big impact on the amount of planned care the NHS has been able to provide. It is estimated that over 10 million people in England did not come forward for treatment when they might have needed it. Shropshire also has an older and ageing population which is something we celebrate but means we must plan for an increase in demand for certain services.

To address these challenges and opportunities, we are looking at developing closer working between services, one-stop clinics, nurse-led telephone follow ups, patient initiated follow ups, virtual consultations (e.g. over the phone or by video), and more joined up pathways and processes for patients. This will ensure our local population receive the best possible care, at the right time, from the right person, and in the right place.

We have already started to have some very early conversations with local health care professionals and their views and experiences will help inform our next steps.

We are now looking for patients, carers, and members of the public to join us at our engagement event where our ideas and this early work will be shared. This is an exciting opportunity for you to give your feedback and share your views to help inform the design of future outpatient care in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
