Bob the Vaccination Bus set to return to Shrewsbury Town Football Club this Saturday
9 November 2022
Shrewsbury Town fans can help win the fight against COVID-19 this winter as they’re being offered the chance to receive their vaccine at Shrewsbury’s home match against Barnsley FC this Saturday.
Bob will be at Montgomery Waters Meadow from 11am as part Men’s Health week which is a pop-up event organised by NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. As well as having the opportunity for supporters to receive their vaccine, there will be an array of information and activities encouraging men to talk about their physical and mental health and learn how they can access support.
Supporters of Shrewsbury Town Football Club and those not attending the game, will be able to get a COVID-19 jab on the bus, which will remain at the stadium until 3pm. The vaccination team will be able to offer vaccines to anyone 50 and over, people aged 12 or over in an at-risk group, people aged 12 and over who have a learning disability, women who are pregnant or health and social care workers.
Louise Brennan, Associate Director of Delivery for the Covid Vaccination Service in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said: “The team were incredibly busy last time they visited Shrewsbury Town, so we’re delighted that he is heading back to the Meadow on Saturday. We’re expecting a big crowd at the game, so we would encourage anyone who still needs to come forward for their autumn booster jab to take this opportunity. Barnsley fans are of course welcome to get their jab as well as Shrewsbury fans.
“Bob the Vaccination Bus will be located on the Montgomery Waters Meadow car park. Our team will be very visible, so please drop in and see them. It is as important as ever to get vaccinated. We need everyone to play their part in protecting themselves, their loved ones and the NHS by getting jabbed as soon as possible.”
The club have been very forthcoming in ensuring they can do all they can to help people stay safe and promote the importance of receiving COVID-19 vaccinations over the last few years. Following Bob’s last visit to Shrewsbury Town Football Club, the first team staff and players all received their booster jabs following Shrewsbury Town’s win over Cheltenham in December.
This year, CEO of Shrewsbury Town Football Club, Brian Caldwell will be visiting Bob the Vaccination Bus to receive his booster and has encouraged everyone else attending the game to do the same: “I’m really pleased that we’re able to welcome the vaccination bus back to Montgomery Waters Meadow, it was a great success last year and it was brilliant to see so many fans queuing up to receive their vaccine ahead of the game. This year, I’m taking the opportunity to get my booster at the Barnsley game and I encourage all of you to do the same. Not only is the vaccine easy to receive, but it will save you time as you won’t have to book an appointment for another day. COVID is on the rise again so let’s all do our bit to make sure we stay protected this winter.”
AFC Telford United are also offering a walk-in service 9am-5pm on Saturday 12th of November where supporters are also encouraged to take up the opportunity to get vaccinated on their way to watch the game.
Anyone who cannot make it to the football club on Saturday can book their booster via the National Booking Service
