Encouraging children to try new things, be active, and learn more with 10 by 10
Trying new and exciting things is an integral part of growing up. It's how a child can discover a talent or passion they did now know they had.
For this reason, Telford & Wrekin Council launched 10 by 10 to encourage children to try ten key extra-circular activities before age 10.
The 10 by 10 activities children are encouraged to try before 10 are to:
- Join in competitive sports
- Play an instrument
- Learn to swim
- Take part in drama and performing arts
- Visit the seaside and the countryside
- Experience museums, galleries and heritage sites
- Take part in camping trips and overnight residential
- Learn to ride a bike
- Take part in debating
- Use a library
Parents want their children to have the best start in life, to be healthy, to experience new things, and 10 by 10 supports them to do that.
Telford and Wrekin has a lot to offer children who want to try new things, be active, and learn - and it can all be seen on the 10 by 10 website.
There, parents can create a 10 by 10 account so they can be the first to know about special offers to try activities for free or at a reduced price. They can also track their child's journey as they try the 10 activities.
Since launch, around 1,000 children have an account, and many more are participating through their school.
More than 300 children have taken up the free-swimming offer as part of the campaign.
At the end of the school year we will be acknowledge all the children in year six who have tried activities.
