Equality, Diversity and Inclusion event shines a light on Black heritage
Within the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care System, we recognise that the black community has played a pivotal role in shaping the healthcare landscape; from pioneering doctors and nurses to healthcare researchers.
Black History Month affords us the opportunity to celebrate these contributions and continue our commitment to creating an inclusive healthcare environment for all.
At a recent equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) event for colleagues across the local health and care system, we celebrated cultural diversity in the local NHS with live performances from high-spirited African drummers, a delicious medley of Carribean food and an opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life.
Rhia Boyode, Director of People and Organisational Development at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “[The event] was an opportunity to get together to talk and hear about people's lived experiences. It has been incredibly insightful and as a black woman a real opportunity to sit on the panel and share my experiences as a leader within this system.”
Rhia continues that she is delighted and excited about the energy, the commitment and pledges that are being made to drive this important agenda forwards and looks forwards to the next steps.
